700 mhz wont get u full speed on some games. go to www.smiff.clara.net , i think that there are some spec recommendations or something there. u can probably play a lot of things, but i gdont think PD, conker, or other advanced games full speed

This user also mentioned in a previous thread that he is running Win98... not such a good combination with that amount of ram.

Yes I know about the tweaks you can use to get it to run, but.... it's an unneccessary upgrade for 98 (under 512, but over 128 is the sweet spot).

errr will windows 98 not use all 512mb? is that what you mean?

You might run into some problems with that much ram, that's all we're saying. Windows 98 has a limitation to how much ram it can properly use. A utility like Cacheman from www.outertech.com can help get rid of the problem.

Like I mentioned in the other thread, you should be able to play some games at near or full speed. I don't know how or why it's so slow...

Although... I remember a bug that was in there a long time ago... Not sure what caused it though. Sometimes the rendering device would just change on me to RGB and the dll insisted it was using Direct3D.

Here's what you want to do. Load up Project64, go to Options, Configure Graphics Options. There should be a selection right next to rendering device, it's a drop down menu. Click on it and choose RGB. Press Ok, now, go back to the screen you just were and choose Direct3D this time, hit apply, then ok.

Load up a rom and tell me if it's at the same speed.

at 700mhz your pc will struggle especially with games like perfect dark

your main processor is the key thing in your framerate for this emu (and any emu or game for that matter)

i have 512megs of 133 ram
and a geforce3 with 64megs

but only a 850 athlon...
soooo really u need a giga hz machine to run the good games without dropping frames

not a bug, a feature... jabo wanted everyone to at least be able to start the emu - if d3d hal didn't init, it switched to RGB for next startup... till i pointed out that it was causing more trouble that it was solving.. and it went.. i forget exactly when (1.2?)

Well, whatever it is... It has a bug, it forgets to tell the user it's set to RGB as mine stayed on Direct3D when it happened to me. 1.2 sounds about right...

i don't get what you're doing asking the guy to switch between RGB and HAL

I had this bug a long time ago Smiff, I call it a bug because it stayed set to RGB no matter what you picked (even though it clearly showed something else) So, hitting RGB somehow managed to reset it, and I was able to go back to Direct3D. Let's just wait and watch the response OK? No point in filling these here holy threads with mindless babble ;)

if the guy hadn't started another thread i'd have some clue what this was about

Same as the other thread. He's having performance issues with Project64. He made sure CFB was off and everything's set to default. I'm just taking a stab in the dark here Smiff, if it works, great, if it doesn't, oh well... :innocent:
