Help needed with running an image...

Hi, I recently found how to use Chankast and so got a Giant Gram 2000 image and Daemon Tools.
I did everything that's written in the tutorials and manuals but all I come up with when I turn on the emulator is the screen in the Dreamcast as if no CD is in.
I must mention that I've tried the same process with the first Giant Gram before with 2000 but got the same results, and believe me, I did everything according to the tutorials and manuals.

If anyone'll help, it'll be greatly and I mean greatly appreciated.

One thing you should probably check is under Options->Configure Drive, make sure that the letter for your virtual drive is selected; that one threw me off for a bit.

Well, my drive is H and I have H marked in the emulator too so I can't figure it out man, but thanks for the idea.

I'm not up on all the dreamcast stuff but it might have something to do with if the image is "self boot" or not.

Well it isn't a self-boot but as far as I understood you don't have to use only self-bootables.

Nope, you have to use selfbootable disks (or the utopia boot disk) or the games will not work.

So, my good man, if I've only downloaded the cdi and all to my computer what can I do from here?

you can dowload Utopia Bootdisk from.. well Im not sure where, maybe a file sharing program. mount the image of the utopia boot disk. Wait until you see the rotating animal, then mount your game cdi in that same drive, while leaving Chankast running. Then it should load up the game. Also, in case you overlooked this, make sure you have your dc_bios and dc_flash files. I hope this helps

You can also use the software in this thread to make the game selfbootable.

Does the emulator "see" a CD in your drive or it thinks that there isn't a CD in the drive at all?

Well Psyman, I'd say it doesn't "see" the games at all as it just loads up that screen where you see the red/white disc rolling and then you go back and try to use the play button in that screen but it says you should enter a disc.

I'm gonna try now what you guys told me and I just wanna take this chance to thank you for taking the time and being patient with me as I'm new with this next-gen emulation so again I just really wanna thank you guys.

Well I played around with the different programs I got from your links guys but I must be seriously computer retarded as I couldn't boot anything. The closest I got with was Exo's Boot but still somehow it didn't work for me. I got kind of mixed up with the image-to-image boot(it kept asking for me to choose the CD rom device or something like that where it's impossible in that option) so I tried a virtual drive-to-image boot but I guess I didn't do it good enough. Most rest of the boot programs that're given in links run in DOS and my XP can't run DOS, and I probably just don't know how to work them too.

I found some Utopia files and it actually made the emulator search for a CD in the drive but it didn't find the image of the game in the end. Perhaps I didn't understand Derek's tip but I don't see no animal when the system starts so I switch to the game image randomly.

All I need now is to learn how to boot these damn things and I'll finally be able to play. If someone can give me a really good step by step or a good boot program for tech idiots like me I'd again be really thankful.

As mentioned above, Windows XP Professional, I just don't know how to check the version.

Weird... Are you sure that you have the right drive selected from the "Options->Configure Drive" option? Try selecting a different drive letter from there.

I'm sure my good man I'm sure, the thing is, I don't think it'll do any use as as I've been telling you I can't really boot the games and I think that's my problem.

If I wouldn't get mixed up in the booting I think I'll probably finally be able to play my wished game.

Just a moment... I think I got it now... The only possibility after all these is that you don't have the ISO mounted...
In that case do the following:
1. Make sure that there isn't a CD/DVD in none of your drives.
2. Start Daemon tools and mount the ISO of the game.
3. Start the emulator, select the drive letter where the ISO is mounted and then select "run" and "start".

When trying to run a game make sure to close any programs that mess up with the CD/DVD-ROM drives.

If the above doesn't help... I don't know what the problem is.

Oh but believe me my friend, the game is mounted well and according to all that's needed it's already done but I repeat myself, I never booted the image well as far as I know as I'm having serious difficulties with that proccess and although there were a couple of times where it seemed I booted it well it didn't work in the end so I'm guessing it didn't boot well and that's where I guess I'd need the help.

Seriously, I think there should be created a "Booting For The Computer Retard" manual for me, I can't figure that one out.
