Having issues with the new 1964, it still rocks though

I got an ATI card so it might be the problem, but I am not using Rice's video plugin, I am using the glN64 0.41 plugin. My biggest gripe is that is seems unstable, I'll be playing Smash Bros or Goldeneye, and the whole game will out of the blue start chugging and the FPS gets cut in half and the audio starts slowing down, and I have no idea why... any possible explanations? I am thinking it is an ATI card bug and the next 1964 version might correct it...

Also there is a solid black border around my games in full screen, about 1" in size, and I have no idea on how to get rid of it, is it a known bug?

Lastly, the frame buffer thing that is "experimental" in glN64 0.41 video plugin causes Smash Bros to freeze! I need it in order to fix the black border bug around the magnifying glass in SSB, I could of swore in worked in the last 1964 version. Can anyone run SSB with glN64 with the frame buffer option on?

Man if I can fix these problems, I am gonna have to buy four N64 to USB converters and start enjoying some serious Mario Kart, SSB, and Goldeneye :D Screw my cartridges!

You may wish to try using the Unofficial Radeon plugin which I posted earlier. This is based on an earlier version before a lot of the Radeon problems were introduced.

Smash Brothers works fine in it from what I played (and I got most of the way thru the game).

um, FYI, the radeon issue is with Rice's video plugin specifically, nothing to do with 1964 in general.

Is the border around all your games or just some? Some games are just like this because when the games are played on the TV all the edges are out of view (It's called Overscan). If you compare a game like Mario Kart 64 using video out on the PC and then play it on the real N64 you will see everything looks zoomed in on the real N64 and with the Computer you have a wider field of view. Games like Wave Race and F-Zero and a bunch of others just don't bother drawing what can't be seen on the TV (I'm guessing to conserve processing power). So when you are playing it with the emulator it has a black border around it and unfortunetly there is no fix that I know of. There gotta be a way using a TV but I haven't figure that out yet.

I got a Radeon 9800 non-pro, and so i guess that is a no, I can't do aynthing about the black border, does everyone elses games in 1964 fill up the whole screen?

And what about the (experimental) frame buffer option in glN64, anyone have trouble using it? It freezes my games...

Ah, smash bros has a definite and large, about 1" black border problem, goldeneye had a 1/4" black border problem with some blue on the sides, and Doom64 had no border problem whatsoever... (great the game I don't care about is bug free >: (

This is an issue with the newer Radeon drivers, if you get a GL file from the 3.7 (I think) series and put that in the emu folder, that should sort it for you.

I think something such as Mickeys Speedway though freezes regardless in the latest version.

I have Catalyst 3.9 and might move up to 3.10, will the gl file work with those? Or do I have to use 3.7?

What ATi card do you have? glN64 only works well on Radeon 8500 and up.
accordinf to my personal experience it works also well with the "old" Radeons (i have AIW Radeon with 7200 Chip on it)

BTW has anyone tried sofar with the new 4.1 Catlyst and gln64??

Ya know the radeon is not all that bad, I can say that when I acquired mine as a freeby. These are not the hipest of video cards, but they work. I am using an ATI Radeon 7200 32mb PCI & AGP on two seperate machines. The new Rice plugin is great for Madden and a few other roms as it clears up a lot of video issues, however Jabo's plugins are more compatible and stable with these video cards. I have found that Jabo likes T&L and Hal Direct 3D the most. Where as Rice is more comfortible on OpenGL with standard options. Rice's plugin has a fit with the Normal Blender and Normal Combiner options do not use on a Radeon. Really I have achived a fitting 80-90% accuracy rating and running the roms normal with the Radeon cards. I do handycap my self with the voodoo accelerator to be able to use glide64 as well.

Yea, I tried it with GLn64, and found that there is no improvement with the hardware framebuffer, but it is working alot faster with 4.1 on my computer.

On my Radeon 9100 system CBFD keeps crashing frequently in random places.
Using:
1964 0.99
Jabo's 1.51
Schibo's Audio (came with 0.99)

Is this because of my system or is it just CBFD?
