Got my Ranger mark this weekend...

Whats a Ranger mark? Is that where you get to go around defeating thousands of stupid monsters that are all alike using the same exact "giant robot" tactic for each one. What color are you? Red, Blue, Green, Pink, Yellow? 
I'm just teasing, seriously though, what is a Ranger mark?

To make a long story short...
bah, sadly I couldn't find a pic but ever heard of U.S Army Rangers, Rangers lead the way yada yada... , if yes you have probaly seen their symbol. A mark which says "Ranger"... That's what a ranger mark is...

US Army Rangers were the first to use lead the way. The rest just took their jody and changed them to their specific branch/mos/division (IIRC it was around that same time, that the US Marines started "don't tread on me"). Speaking of SAS, I don't think they have anything origional, before the British soldiers were beaten by US, their only cadence was a drum beat.

Haha, it's hard to tell how they would stand against each other but SAS has an extremely good reputation... But on the other hand, so does most other elite forces...
Yeah, I dont think one is better than the other, same with the marines vs army vs navy etc. I think all the major world powers have similar strengths in military force. I'm not sure what exactly makes us the strongest as they say but I think they are all just as skilled.

It's the technology (though our training is probably also higher quality as well). Definitely not the size. Take for example, the chameleon suit. Changes color to blend with whatever environment your in at will, absorbs infra-red light (so anybody using night vision goggles will have a hard time seeing you) and it can also adjust its outer temperature to match the weather, while keeping you warm or cool inside, which makes thermal sights in tanks or other armored vehicles useless for spotting you. To top that, the goggles that are equipped in the helmet are able to see vapors rising up from hollow ground...probably where charlie buried a land mine 2 days ago.
Now you know how good that is, just wait until 10 years or so from now before the realy good technology that we have right now becomes de-classified.

Probably than most armys, but not ours^_^
Although you have us on the technology, however there is a good reason for that....our government sucks. Our soldiers boots melt in extreme temperatures. Every over majoy army has kevlar helmets. Ours are made of tin
And dont get me started on that SA-80, the only time you get your hands on the best equipment in the british military is if you are in either the SAS or SBS.

Well, the reason I say training possibly is because speaking first hand, I know the US is pretty in-depth, especialy even more so if you're MOS is combat arms. I looked at the british training regimen, it doesn't look like they do as much, but I haven't seen it first hand, so I don't know. But, I do know that the US military invests about twice as much money into the quality of training for each recruit than the british military does

But then again in the end it doesn't come down to money invested, a couple of years ago some of the elite forces joined up for a competition held in sweden, 4-6 yrs ago. The danish, the states, sweden and a couple of more countries participated, the brittish did not. The end result was that the Danish elite forces Jagarcorpset came 1st, my ranger company 2nd closely followed by the swedish counterpart to the navy seals. And as #4 we have the allmighty navy seals. And sweden doesn't have many precentages of the states defence budget...

you'll find a lot of European armies who no longer have vast empires to defend either have armies that specialise into particular areas (Scandinavian countries and the UK), a reduced military force (Germany) or the entire country (Switzerland, who can in theory own anyone's ass although only if they try to invade Switzerland )
of course forget good military might costs money, when the UK had the "best" navy in the world 25% of the government's income was spent on the navy alone
US has money, and spends it's money on it's armed forces and they show that, but it doesn't concentrate it's funding into particular areas so they produce good all round troops

Hehe thats awesome. A bit more than I would have ever done, I could have seen myself in going to ranger school had time permitted and if I were accepted, but the cold weather is where I draw the line <_<. I was an armored reconaisance specialist (Cavalry Scout) myself.
I can probably function ok in any heat that there could possibly be on this earth, but me never living anywhere other than a desert, I couldn't even stand kentucky winter weather. Besides, when it gets cold you have to lug around way to much gear, half of which doesn't even keep you warm :happy:
