What's new

good cpu, still slow. video card?

Hey, I have a P4 2.8 ghz, and Chankast runs my games pretty bad. I have SF3:3S, CvS2, and MvC2. CvS2 runs acceptably, SF3 is slow but not unplayable.. now MvC2 is downright unplayable. But whats confusing is that my friend with a worse cpu than me runs the game pretty good. He has a better video card, but everyone says video card doesnt matter much for chankast, and its yuour cpu that matters. My video card is Nvidia geforce ti 4200, his is a radeon 9800 pro. My cpu is 2.8 ghz, his is 2.4.

I also read an older post by a guy who has the same video card as me who complained about MvC2 speed. Could it be a compatibility issue with that card?

I've tried the overclocking options, I dont have anything running in background, ive tried adjusting resolution, ive tried basicall eveything in my control and its still slow, so I'm wondering if its my card...

He could have a 2.4C and you have a 2.8B, which would explain it. The C P4's run on a 800MHz FSB with a higher default ram speed (400MHz) while the B's run at 533 default with 333 default ram speed.

I have a 2.26B running at 2.85GHz with a 675MHz FSB and Chankast runs very well on my system.

ah, didnt know about that. Yeah I hve a B it sounds like, cause its 533 FSB. Not sure what his is tho. thanks for the info

but still, before I got the emulator I saw lots of people talkin about how good MvC2 ran. I didn't expect it to be unplayable on a 2.8 ghz, even if it is 533 FSB... do all these people who say it ran good have super comps?

Helloo, I'm new here :)

I have a similar problem

My sytem specs are: P4 2.4 Ghz 533Mhz FSB , 768 Mb DDR-266 , QDI PLatinX 2D 533/A Mobo, and GF2 MX-400 64 Mb SD-VRAM

The problem it's I ran Chankast at 40~50 FPS as much, tried overclock & underclock Chankast but I got the same results :

So if it's the FSB & DDR speed which slowdown it, how can I solve this problem, please?

Thanks for your help,

would faster ram improve my performance? I currently have PC2100 ram and was thinking of uprading it too PC3200
Looks like this is the way to improve. The problem if it's your Motherboard support such RAM modules.
Just by the case try CPU-Z and/or PC Wizard, nice and free tools ;)

Wow! I'm responding what I was asking! :p Please help me :)

Well I have an Athlon XP2600 Mobile with a ASUS a7n8x-E Deluxe, so I assume 3200 is the way to go, would I get much better performance?

If you got decent PC3200 (or better) and overclocked to the 2.2-2.4GHz range with your completely unlocked multiplier, hell yes.

Also, check your motherboard's manual or online support and be sure that your board will support these kinds of bus speeds. There's nothing worse than getting new ram, only to find out it doesn't work. I'm running PC3200, and it really does make a difference.

nub question, how can i change the front side bus range? (i guess i cant, but better asking as not knowing forever :) )

If your bus speed is switchable, most newer motherboards will switch automatically when a different speed ram module is used. The only way to ensure that yours will accept a higher speed is to check the manufacturers web site for your specific model board, or checkk the original manual for your mainboard/PC.

k problem found. I needed to defragment my computer. MvC2 runs at full speed now

Thats a new one, never really noticed any increase in performance (game wise) after defragging

Chankast does depend on CPU more than anything though, emulating the dc does require a lot of power, strange why you got slow framerates though

When i got my radeon 9800 pro, i didn't notice much more FPS in chankast from my old Geforce 3 to be honest

yeah same here until now. thats why i didnt think of it. But after reading another thread where a guy reformatted his computer and had a faster running Chankast, I decided to try defragging before bed.

Woke up this afternoon, loaded up MvC2.. didnt expect the defragging to help honestly, it ws out of desparation. BUT IT DID! and im happy. the emulator is much faster than I thought it would be. didnt even know it was this good
