Emulator help. Screen is black!

Hiya i have recently downloaded the n64 emulator (which i used to have n found it worked perfectly but deleted it all for some reason and now want to use it again) BUT all the roms are coming up black on the screen! down the bottom of the emulator it says the emulation is starting/loaded but the screen stays black and i hear the sound of each game but nothing on the screen. heeelp

Do you have an unsupported resolution set?
Do you have a GPU or are you using integrated video, if you have a GPU please be sure that the resent drivers are installed.
Which video plugin are you using?
How is the plugin being rendered, OpenGL or DirectX?
