Emulating Classic PC Games on the PC

I have an interesting question:

I am looking for a solution to emulate classic DOS games on the PC, but I do not want to use a PC slowdown program.

The best solution I can think of to date is to take an existing PC emulator for Mac and port it over to the PC.

Does anyone have any ideas?? I would also be interested in hearing recommendations on good PC emulators for Mac.

Someone beat you to it. DOSBox aims to emulate DOS on a PC. It has fairly solid 286 support and work is now progressing on 386 support. 486 and Pentium support will eventually be in the future of this emulator.

Be aware that the speed is still quite low, emulation is not complete and there are bugs. It still should be enough for running basic DOS games though.

The best thing to do is get WinUAE, an Amiga emulator which works amazing on modern PCs. For the DOS games that aren't available on Amiga there's not much you can do besides use Moslo or something, but it's not going to work nearly as well. Which games are you trying to get to work?

I'm working with DOSBox a bit, and it seems that each game takes some specific tinkering to get it running smoothly.

Otherwise, VDM Sound is another option to consider.

i wish i could play my Amiga I've got an Amiga 2000 HD, but cant use it because I dont have a keyboard that'll work on it, need to make one of the adaptor thingys some time At least it boots in to AmigaOS/Workbench now, just not ermm controllable

VDM Sound is just for sound card compatibality has nothing to do with PC speed

i assume that scotteo is trying to emulate a game that relies on Pc clock speed for game timing, i have the very same problem i just got Elder scrolls Arena off ebay to find that my PC is WAAAAAAAAAAAY too fast for this game which has the minimum requitrements of a 386, dos box is great and the people who are designing it are doing wonders for a dying platform

however if scotteo is just having compatibality issues i would try Microsoft Virtual PC it emulates any PC os you want
i have DOS 6.22 and linux mandrake 9 on it its only slightly slower that my 2.6 Ghz clock speed and is great for legacy support
