DVD-RW Issues

Grrrrrrrrrrrr - If I waste another blank DVD I'm going to go spare.

Having some real issues here guys, trying to burn a DVD movie and the burn always fails, regardless of what software I use to burn. Take your pick out of DVD Santa, Nero and DVD Clone.

I get error messages like this:

And I'm like .

Any ideas? It's a Samsung WriteMaster TS-H552U.

It's doing my nut in.

Just Another Wacko ;)
If you can burn other DVDs and you are having problems with a specific DVD image then the image is probably faulty (or has some kind of protection?). If it happens with any DVD you try to burn then I can only think of three things:

1. Faulty (or incompatible with your writer) DVDs. Try another brand.

2. Power problems. Is your PSU powerful enough to handle all the hardware parts of your PC? Try disconnecting some devices and try to burn a DVD again.

3. Faulty writer lens. The lense of some drives/writers may have calibration problems after some time of usage (usually because of constant misalignment of the lens). As a result, the drive/writer cannot read or write specific kinds of disks. For example, it might be able to read or write DVD-RW disks but it might not be able to read or write DVD-R disks. The problem gets worse as you use the drive/writer and after some time it won't be able to read/write any disk.
It would be better to use the warranty of the drive if it did not expire yet. If the warranty is over, then you can try recalibrating the lense by yourself (if you are familiar with fixing hardware parts) or buy a new one (since taking it to the lab will cost you almost the same amount money).

You can even burn pagefile.sys as disk image - there's no way to get those errors even when writing b0rken image :D

I think there's two posslible problems - 16x is too much for hard drive or DVD discs are bad.
Anyway it's better to write at 4-6x - lower speed = lower error rate.

2Jaz - try to write at 6x, if you'll get same error then it's problem with your drive.

Can't believe I didn't think to try that. It seems to be working now, I'll let you know how the burn turns out when it's finished. :)

OK the burn was fine, but when I watch the DVD back, the audio is totally out of sync. :(

DVD Santa did, yeah. It was originally an Xvid, converted to DVD format.

Converting xvid to dvd (i did this with some hdtv rips) using nero made the audio get out of sync on parts of the show (not all of it, which was weird)... so you're not alone there. maybe it's something to do with VBR encoding of the video and/or audio? who knows.

Cheers all.

Burning is fine now, but still getting the sound out of sync. I'm going to play around with some different vids over the weekend and at different speeds to see if I can solve the problem.
