dumb question... What's a mirror

i'm sure everyone but me knows this, but when you download emulators what is a "mirror"?

A mirror in internet terms in the same file at a different place, i.e if the 1st link doesn't work you try the mirrors, which hopefully should work..

i guess that would explain why some downloads have up to 5 mirrors

It means you have the option to download the exact same file from another location, which mirror you click on makes no difference. However if you are downloading a larger file and its taking too long you could stop the download and choose a different mirror as it may speed the download up.

It was in General N64 Emulation originally. In retrospect, Tech Talk may have been more appropriate, but it's water under the bridge at this point.
