Does emulating an N64 game let you boost its framerate?

I remember some games, namely Perfect Dark, having mediocre framerates. Perfect Dark must have been 10fps during hectic multiplayer.

When emulating a game, does it try to emulate the hardware accurately, and thus keep the framerates of the original? Or, having a CPU and GPU dozens of times more powerful than the N64's, will I be able to spam rockest everywhere during 12-character Perfect Dark and keep 60fps up the entire time?

It depends on the emulator. Project64 will emulate the hardware fairly faithfully, so you will see the same slowdowns in heavy areas. However, there are builds of 1964 available that allow you to overclock the emulated N64 and thus eliminate the slowdowns in games such as Perfect Dark and Goldeneye 007. You can search the forum for those as there are several builds you can try. The requirements will be a bit higher, but that likely won't be a problem.

Are you referring solely to 1964 Ultrafast 3, or are there other builds too? I'm fiddling with that now, it certainly seems to be a neat, but it's fiddly. Hopefully I can get it set up properly.

I'm also looking through the forums to see what other builds exist, but 1964 is mentioned so often it's difficult to find if there are any other builds.

Thanks for the response, by the way.
