Corrupted VMUs?

Hey all,

I had just finished unlocking all the characters in Soul Calibur, when suddenly the game stopped recognizing the VM data. I keep getting the message "unable to load SOULCALIBUR data" when I start up the game. I can't even start the game itself until I "unplug" the VM unit. So I went into vmsbrowser and exported the data to a separate save file. Then backed up and I deleted the original vms*.bin files. I allowed the game to create new vms.bin files, and tried to import the save state, but the game repeats the error.

I went to gamefaqs.com and downloaded the saves they have on there, repeated the process, and had no luck. Interesting enough, the saves I got on that site are 12 blocks, where Soul Calibur tells me it only needs 9 blocks. Maybe they're different versions, I dunno, but regardless, it doesn't work.

This leads me to 2 questions:

1. Does Chankast have a history of corrupting vms files, or is the game itself that's causing the trouble? If this is a new bug, is there a process I need to go through to report it?

2. Does anyone out there have a vms.bin they might be willing to upload for me that has most or all of the characters unlocked? I haven't done any of the missions yet, so I didn't have Inferno, but I'll take whatever you guys have. Other games on it, whatever, I can clean it up myself. I'd just like to get the data back (I really don't want to have to beat the game 16 times to be able to use all the characters again).

Thanks in advance,

-Forager.

Format the VMI file from the bios menu without a disk image loaded. Your card is corrupted and importing data from gamefaqs won't fix it.
