Personally, I don't see why you would think $20 is a waste for an analog joypad. You think the keyboard works, but an analog pad can make all the difference. I'm not saying go out and buy one, but I think it wouldn't be a waste, cause you'd use it, I sure do with mine. Anyway that's my two cents, it's up to you, but there are other ways I'm sure. I'm not much on trying to emulate with a mouse, I prefer the closest I can get. I tried those two games on keyboard (I managed to get the whole spinning thing with bowser to work with it) and it's a lot better with a pad. Here is what I would recommend if you are using a keyboard, place your middle finger on the up arrow key (if that's what you are using), index finger (this is right hand) on the left key and the ring on the right arrow key. or have the last two hover when pressing the up arrow key. when you start to swing, press up first then which ever direction you want to go. Once you get a pattern going, you should be fine. Worked for me, can't guarentee it for anyone else though, since I have finger dexterity.
