Choppy Audio

In majoras mask in clock town the audio gets extremely choppy.
the game plays fine unless i have it synced to audio, but it is horrible in this spot to say the least.
most of the game audio is great with minor glitches here and there, but ive tried using every audio plugin i could think of, even setting the prebuffer to max, which slighty fixes the problem.

im wondering is this a problem with me/my hardware or something that can be fixed as far as emulation goes?

Heres my specs, but i think the problem is me.
Ive had the same problem with other things, i need a format/reinstall.
anyway it seems that if i have to switch back and forth between windowed and full screen, changing settings, something hogs all my CPU power.

this isnt just project64, like i said ive had this happen at times before i installed pj64, i just now realized that this is what was happening again.
so i believe that the choppy audio is from some problem with my computer, not the game or the emulator.

anyway, specs.

Matsonic MS8308EP266 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 1600+ (Palomino) 1.4Ghz
384MB RAM
ATI Radeon 7000 (Where would you rank this card as far as 64 games/openGL/glide go?)
SoundBlaster SBPCI Sound Card (Crap isnt it)
I also have an integrated SiS7018 Sound Card which i dont like to use due to its lack of outputs and my PC is connected to my stereo.
Can i set it up so that pj64 uses the SiS card and everything else uses the SBPCI?? i use headphones anyway, at least this way i could keep them connected, and only use them for pj64, while everything else is sent to my SBPCI.

it isnt a great system, but i know it isnt crap either :)
