Bios looping

Hi there, I havent found this issue whilst searching this and other boards, so here goes.

I have loaded Ikaruga through daemon tools, and i have selected the xxx cd plugin. Im pretty sure all the settings are OK, since any other option renders an error.

But the game just never starts. Never mind the unwritable clock issue with the bios, I can never get past it at all, when i get to the menu, and select Play, it just starts all over again, with the Dreamcast logo and then the setting of the clock.

Is this b/c of the Ikaruga game? Or anything else? I havent got any other games to try.

Thanks, Joel

Do you see a thread in the forum named "Chancast FAQ"? Just read it and you'll be fine. :)

Dang, sorry i missed that. That thread was obviously one of the first threads i read, if not the first.

Oh well, guess I'll just have to buy me a European Dreamcast and rip the BIOS from it.

Hmm, is this problem related to the game I'm trying to run, or will it be like this with all games? What IS it related to, and is there any other way around it, besides switching to european bios?

It will happen with every game and it's because of a corrupted flash file (this file is needed by the emulator). You must use a flash file that was not used by the emulator (the name of the file must be dc_flash.bin).

OK, I replaced the dc_flash.bin with a new one, and now it works. Thanks alot. I don't understand how this happened, I think i replaced it with a identical one. Strange shit. It works now anyways, and I've finally got to play Ikaruga. Wasn't all that though.. =( Any more cool dc gems out there?

I had the same problem with Shenmue. The dc_flash.bin was modified by the emulator and didn't work after that. Replacing it with the original fixed it, just like in your case. Someone could do a hex compare and see what is changed...

I think if you set the windows read-only property on dc_flash.bin and dc_bios.bin it stops this corruption problem from happening. I could be wrong but I haven't had it happen since I did that.
