Beat'em up nostalgics...

If you're like me, I suppose you all enjoyed playing beat'em ups in the early 90'. But today these games have long gone out of fashion and we don't see much of them anymore, either on consoles or in arcades. The only solution for the nostalgics of the genre is to play them on emulators, and this is the purpose of this topic. I will list below the beat'em ups i remember to have played in my whole gamer life on different systems. I guess I will probably forget some good games out there, or maybe I just never played it ! If that is the case, just add the game(s) to the list in another post, this way both the nostalgic and the casual gamer may find something new to try if he never heard of this game before. Well... here we go, enjoy ! (Note that I will only include side scrolling beat'em ups to the list, not one on one)

Nes: - The legendary Double Dragon serie (1, 2 and 3) is the only one i can think of, i was really too young back then.

Snes: - Battle Toads in Battlemaniacs
- Battle Toads and Double Dragon - The Ultimate Team
- Captain America and the Avengers
- Combatribes
- Final Fight Serie (1, 2 and 3)
- King of Dragons
- Knights of the Round Table
- Legend
- Rival Turf
- Super Double Dragon
- The Thick

Sega Genesis: - Streets of Rage serie (1, 2 and 3)
- Golden Axe serie (1, 2 and 3)
- Blades of Vengeance

NeoGeo: - Sengoku serie (1,2 and 3... Sengoku 3 being the
best beat'em up on Neo geo)
- Robo Army
- Mutation Nation
- Ninja Combat (Really not very good, even for die hard fans)
- Burning Fight

This ends here for me, these are the ones I remember to have played. I probably never played a lot more than these on other systems, so if you guys want to complete the list a bit, I'm looking forward for new nostalgic beat'em up challenges !

P.S : Sorry if I made any mistakes, my english is still not very good.

Battletoads (NES, arcade)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series (NES, arcade)
alien vs predator (arcade)
Golden Axe (various platforms)
several Marvel superhero games(various platforms)

there are tons more :p (many of the arcade "beat 'em ups" are fully emulated even, unless they're newer ones which just won't be supported just yet.)

The Best Arcade Fighters I can remember (and probably still playing sometimes) are the *** vs *** ones... like Capcom Vs. SNK, Marvel vs. Capcom...
They are quick, a lot of effects and crazy moves...
AND WHY HAVE YOU FORGOT Street Fighter in your SNES Collection?

Because I only listed side scrolling beat'em ups. However, I do agree with you, Capcom VS SNK and Marvel VS Capcom are very good. And Street Fighter is the best fighting game ever

That Damn Good
Kung Fu (Nes)
Jackie Chan Kung Fu (Nes)
Karate Kid (Nes)
Ninja Turtles 4 (Snes)
Fighting Force64 (N64)

Dungeons and Dragons for the CPS1 was awesome.

Yup. Sure was.

Lets go back a bit further this time....

IK+ - C64 - Best beat em up ever! Most replay value. Took *real skill* to get to Black Belt 8th Dan.

even further....

Way of the Exploding Fist - C64 - Great game - basically a ripoff of...

Karate Champ - The first arcade game I really got into. Two Sticks. Lots of possible moves and BULL RUSHING :p

Was Yie-Ar Kung Fu ever out for the C64? We had it on Amstrad and BBC, amazing game!

Also, Ninja Warriors on the Amstrad CPC, fantastic!

Dungeons and Dragons for CPS1 ? Never heard about it...
I know D&D: Tower of Doom and Shadow of Mystara for CPS2 - really great games. Hmm... wait a minute ! CPS1... I guess i know this game - it's called "The King of Dragons", not "Dungeons and Dragons" but anyway it's a great game.

Armored Warriors (CPS2) -great mecha beat'em up
Battle Circuit (CPS2) - very funny game
Gaia Crusaders (Cave hardware) - good beat'em up by Noise Factory.
Dynamite cop (Model 2,DC) - you can use everything, even frozen beef as a weapon :term:

Sure was, infact there were two releases:-

One by
Imagine and the other by Konami .

From memory Imagine "the name of the game" (same guys who did one the Aliens the Movie games) got the conversion licenses and Konami weren't happy so they did it again themselves. Classic C64 stuff that.

There was also a Yie Ar Kung Fu 2 .

:)

Fantastic! It seems the Imagine/Konami fiasco happened with the Amstrad versions too, as I have a two versions, both from Ocean compilation sets, oen of which says "Konami" on the box, and I know from playing the other that it says "Imagine" in-game. I'm not certain about the one that claims to be a Konami release though, I don't play it because it's at the end of a tape, where the one I do play is at the start.

I've got Yie Ar 2 as well, but for some reason I never took as much of a shine to it as I did the first, because of the pretty standard beat-em-up control scheme. I loved the way on the original, different joystick directions combined with fire would do the same move, independant of which way you were facing, and that just wasn't there in the second! That said, I haven't played it anywhere near as much as it suffers from the same problem as my other copy of Yie Ar Kung-Fu, being at the end of a tape.

Those C64 versions look excellent, especially the arrow underneath Oolong showing which attack he's doing, very handy! I imagine the SID rendition of the music would be brilliant too, but I don't have a player yet to listen to it. The only thing the C64 seems to be missing is Oolong's cheeky face in the top left showing how many lives you have left!

Hey I know this is diverting from the thread's original intentions but do you remember Head over Heels? Well this is a remake of the same game with batter grapics etc that I did the soundtrack for. :)
