Amazing Island: Over-the-top excesive lighting

I've been trying a few games on the emulator and found that they run decently well and at good playable speed, but I encountered a problem when playing Amazing Island, the lighting effects are way too excesive when the camera hits certain spots, to the point where it hurts the eyes, not to mention the fps drops to about 4-5 frames, no doubt due to an abuse of effects somewhere.

Im using the DX9 Graphics plugin
My graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce9100
Im using build 5038

Dual Core enabled
Idle Skipping enabled
HLE and IPL enabled
Lock threads to core enabled
DSPLLE on thread enabled
Confirm on stop enabled

Try enabling safe texture cache or try the OpenGL plugin to see if it helps. If those don't work, try messing with other graphic options. If it still doesn't work it could be a rendering bug in the graphic plugin, in which case there is nothing that can be done but to report it to the developers and wait.
