Ok so i try to run a ROM(animal crossing), and it tells me that the Direct 3D Device creation failed. I'm not too sure what that means but how do i fix it?

Ok, so I know that this is a lame question, but every time i try to open up a ROM, it tells me that there is no joystick connected. Now i don't want to have to buy a joystick, so i was wondering if there was a way to use the keyboard instead. Thanks
