ROM Hacks, Emulation, and the New Life of Old Games

Hey everyone,
I just published an article on ROM hacks and emulation—how they’ve gone from being underground tools to something way bigger: preservation, creative experimentation, and fan-driven storytelling.

It covers everything from fan translations and “What If” hacks to how these tools are now part of the broader gaming ecosystem, especially with streamers and content creators pushing them into the spotlight. I also dig into why these projects matter emotionally—how they let us revisit old favorites not just as they were, but as we remember or wish they had been.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, I’d love for you to check it out: https://bbox.ing/Meh5
Let me know what you think—or share your favorite hacks if you’ve got any!

The Joy of Rediscovering Games Through Emulation

Remember that game you couldn’t finish as a kid? Or the one your neighbor wouldn’t let you borrow? Emulation brings those moments back—not polished, not reimagined, just as they were, weird translations and all.

I just finished writing a deep-dive on the emotional, cultural, and technical side of emulation. It’s not just nostalgia—it’s digital preservation, curiosity, and sometimes, rebellion. From save states to accessibility to the weird joy of booting up a forgotten Japanese rhythm game, this piece explores why emulation still matters more than most people realize.

If you’ve ever loaded up a ROM just to feel something, I think this’ll resonate with you.

Would love to hear how others got into emulation, what you're playing, and what it means to you now.

Nintendo vs. Emulation: Can Copyright and Game Preservation Coexist?

Hey everyone!

If you’ve been following the emulation scene lately, you probably already know that things have taken a turn for the worse. Nintendo’s recent legal actions have shut down some of the biggest names in Switch and 3DS emulation—Yuzu, Ryujinx, and Citra—along with their forks. While Nintendo claims this is a necessary move to combat piracy, the takedowns have left many gamers wondering:

Is emulation a threat to intellectual property, or is it the only way to preserve gaming history?

I just published an in-depth article that dives into this very question:
