Paper Mario Unpassable part

I'm at the part where you have to make the cake for gourmet guy, and put it in the oven for 30 seconds. But it never turns out right because I guess the game isn't on the same speed as it should be. So how do I get passed him? How do I figure out 30 seconds in the game?

Thats weird but your explanation of what might of happened could be right most emulators cannot emulate the speed of the system 100% i know becuase when you try to play mother (gba) on an emulator the sound based attacking is harder to pull off
