My system hangs on multiple tabs in Firefox

My system ( CPU 2.40 GHz & 512 MB of RAM ) hangs as I open more than 50 tabs in Mozilla Firefox. I want to open approx 500 tabs for off-page SEO work ( Multiple sites ) at a time in Firefox browser …..................... Should I increase its memory or CPU or both or any other idea to improve the PC performance?

500? Are you serious? Even 50 tabs is overkill in terms of memory consumption, with 512MB of RAM. Firefox warns you when opening any more tabs has a negative impact on performance, you know.

It's a bot. Or a person with lots of time available. If the signature isn't a dead giveaway (gone now because it was banned) do a quick google search of its username.

heh, I hadn't noticed that. The person/bot revealed its intent in the first post.

These have been appearing a lot lately (I call them sig-spammers). If you notice one, ignore it. It'll be banned/removed eventually. If it hasn't been dealt with for a while (a few passed under my radar for more than a week) feel free to send me a PM and I'll take care of it.

Ngemu has been getting these sig spammers a lot, the spam seems to be vbulletin specific though.

I had one of these sig spammers sign up on my IPB forum and it was unable to successfully add a signature.

At times they can seem quite human, likely they are bots though. The spam script seems to pick up on context sensitive keywords in a forum and pulls posts from a database to spam forums.

The context sensitive keywords allows it to make seemingly on topic posts to blend in with other members and not stand out like a sore thumb, thus is why links are added to signatures instead.

I guess it's a new breed of spammer/spambot.

Well yeah not all are bots, but a good majority are though. In the case of human spam, most of the time a human just cracks the recaptcha or verification questions then a bot script takes over after the recaptcha/verification question is cracked.

It's easy to tell if it's a bot by looking at the time spent online, if a bot made only one long post and spent a minute or less online it is likely a bot.

It's a bit more difficult to use this concept if the bot made multiple posts since the forums built in flood control takes effect in this regard.

One thing I know is spam is highly annoying and often times a fraud/scam, I'll be damned if I let spammers spam my forum which is why I plan on kicking up the anti-spam features a bit.

Regardless of how much anyone likes porn, the porn bots are the most annoying and disgusting, it's highly inappropriate given that kids or teens usually browse forums.

Also what do you do if a bot registers and decides it's going to post child porn? Personally it's extremely frightening in a way that they can do this and there is essentially no way to track them down due to the spam originating from a botnet or the spammer hiding behind multiple proxies.

Would you be held accountable for the content the bot posts if it is illegal, deleting the posts or banning the user doesn't get rid of everything since pages are usually cached in search engines and still exist in some form on the server itself.

Just for laughs, i opened up WAY over 500 tabs in Firefox. Works fiiiine. Maybe because my computer kicks a rather large amount of ass. And is going to kick even more ass tomorrow, or this Tuesday.
