Mplayer alternatives

I have Mplayer, it rocks I have to say... but since I'm newbie to linux, I have to ask you guys? is there are better alternatives or I stay with it?

You could try xine - some people say it is better than mplayer, personally I don't like it much.

Eh? XMMS is an mp3 player, mplayer is tailored more towards video.
