Is there an NES OS out there?

I know it sounds silly since the NES is so small it would be pointless, but wouldn't it be cool if there was an Operating System that only plays NES games? Without a traditional Desktop, of course. You could boot into it and have a full screen menu system instead that only shows '.nes' games that can be selected using a joypad. 'Esc' could end the game and send you back to the menu system, and 'F8' could reset the NES. Since it's the NES and not the N64, is it safe to say it would be easier? A very stripped down version of Linux could be used, i think. What do you think, cool or too pointless and complicated?
