Help with 2-4 player (SMP3)

I need help on getting more than one player to work on Super Mario Party 3. I have tried hitting every button on each player 1 & 2 but it won't let the other player join. Any suggestions?

Make sure that controllers 2-4 are marked as "Plugged in", and that you've actually set the keys/buttons for them.
