Cheats sort of broken...

I have tried to add my own codes for various games, and they do not work, for some reason. I know that some games have cheats already added to the Cheats menu, and they work fine.. I tried all sorts of things to fix my own but to no avail. I have:
Reinstalled Project 64
Enabled/Disabled Memory Pak
Tried renaming the codes
Tried activating the codes and rebooting game
Eating pie (random joke)
And finally, disabled CPU pausing.
Oh, I have no idea what would cause this.
Please help!

Maybe it's because your codes don't make sense. Check them over.

And, keep in mind: if you enable a cheat BEFORE you start the ROM, then start the ROM, the cheat will become disabled again. To fix this, either enable the cheat after the ROM has been activated, or enable the option "cheats stay enabled" in the settings menu.

make sure its for the right version of the game, for example some games have a version 1.1 or 1.2 which the cheats would be different for.

Well, they make sense because I copied them off a Youtube video showing them in action. I start the cheats during the middle of gameplay in my ROM. In reply to spartan, my ROM doesn't have a version. It is just "Super Mario 64." The only ROM I have witth a version is Wave Race, which is 1.1.

all i can say is look up some other cheats and see if they work
