Castlevania save problem

Try as I might, I can't get the game's own saving system to work. I always get the "Controller pak not inserted" message at startup, and can't use the white saving crystals. I've tried setting both EEPROM sizes at ROM properties and various save types, but no dice so far.

Are you sure you have 'controller pak plugged in' checked (if using Jabo's) or have the mempak selected in N-Rage's in the controller plugin config?

Since Castlevania uses the controller pak modifying the eeprom settings won't make a difference.
