on it! and is internet ready, and does go onto the web.my desktop pc is running winxp pro!

Well no, the internet sharing requires some sort of linked connection between the two computers. This can be anything from a dual directional parallel cable to the more common ethernet cables. In any case you will need some way to connect the computers together. One computer acts as a hub for all the other computers connected to it.
