Best type of rom extention?

HTAFC will rise again!!!
Is there a specific type of rom extention that emulators prefer?

There's loads of extentions, ".rom", ".v64", ".N64" ect. (many more)

I understand that it relates to the hardware used to rip the rom, is there a way to convert a rom extention?

Cheers! :)

Yes, just rename them.

I like .n64.

.rom .bin are so generic that they can mean any rom or binary file, not just N64 roms.

For some older emulators and rom utilities, yes. That assumes that the extension is correct; different extensions generally denote different byte orders. For newer emulators the extension (and thus the byte order) aren't important.
