Banjo-Tooie Character Modifier Cheat

Hi. I've been trying to use the Character Modifier cheat on Banjo-Tooie, but whenever I press "L" (the actual button with "L" on it) while going through a door, nothing happens. Could someone help me? Am I pressing the wrong button, pressing it at the wrong time, is the cheat still off, or what?

I don't think this works with PJ64. I did this with 1964 and it worked. But I transformed into a bumble bee and couldnt leave the building because Wumba Tells you that you can't leave. I hate that.

Ignore what that last guy said... I just hold the button as I'm walking through a door, just make sure you have the code on, and check your settings to make sure your controls correct.
