In my knowledge it is HLE emulation, that's why you have in some games sound you hadn't before.
The naming is because of it uses code of it's LLE Plugin and if you compile it the thing is called in that way!

I even confused myself with my naming convention. Please understand that there was a LOT of rewriting here, cut and paste there, slap this here and slap that there to try to get the best quality and best performance possible. Things like filenames and version numbers became unimportant but can confuse the end-user. Sorry for being a bit erratic hehe
