Control setup

I was trying to setup the controls to use my keyboard, but when I select configure controls from the menu, nothing happens.

Make sure you have ElSemi's controller plugin selected as the active controller plugin.

I've got a question about this; I figured to use the controller plugin and now I can get to the controller config, and have configured my controls. But. No input from my keyboard gets a response from the emulator? I've checked the FAQs but I can't see my problem there. I get to the set time/date screen and cannot go further because none of my controls does anything.

ok no the inputs dont work i have everything selected right i get nothing out of the controls i even got a alienware pc controller and it dont even link up so obviously the keyboard isnt working awsell can you please tell me how to get this to work im giving this emulator to a friend for getting me the game spore for my pc and my laptop so please help me out
