How do I use downloaded save states?

Well anyways I am trying to do a 100% speed run of zelda mm and I need a already completed file to test some stuff out on. Whenever i try to use save states that I downloaded it doesnt work and crashes pj64. Also after I download it its in some a different format than normal saves. The one im talking about is this one.

That's not a save state, but a native save. The difference is that a save state can be saved and loaded at an exact moment (only with the emulator, you can't do it with the real thing), but isn't recommended. A native state is a save file just like a real N64 makes when you save in a game with it. To use it simply put the file (not the folder) inside the Save-folder of Project64 and start the game.
