    can the games be played using keyboard?

    Yes. It would be pretty short-sighted from the developers to not to include keyboard support, don't you think?

    Read the Project64 User's Manual.

    the keyboard can be used, but i would advise getting a usb controller, As it is better to use than the keyboard

    You can play games using the mouse as well as the keyboard, using the NRage plugin. If you are so inclined, you can use both and a gamepad at the same time.
