blank screen in character selection screen in OOT

hey everyone. im running the latest version of direct X, with an ATI 128 PRO. (rendering device Direct3d HAL)

problem is everytime i try to play this game, i get a blank screen in the character selection screen. i can still move the cursor and hear the sfx, but thats about it. any ideas why?

if nobody has any ideas, can someone at least guide me through how to type any name and select it. (i.e. walk me through how many keystrokes right...down/..etc) that way i may be able to bypass this screen altogether, even though a fix would be awesome

Your graphics card is below minimum spec. Try Jabo's Direct3D6 plugin.

The following graphics chipsets (thus all graphics cards based on them) can be considered below minimum specification:

* 3dfx Voodoo 1,2,3 (1,2 - not at all, 3 - poor image quality)
* ATI Rage128, Rage Pro (poor image quality)
* Intel i740, i810 (poor image quality)
* Matrox G200, G400, G450 (poor image quality)
* nVidia Riva128 (poor image quality)
* S3 Savage 4, Savage 2000 (particularly bad, these cards hang)
