Unhappy Pitiful framerate in Super Smash Bros. Melee

I'm trying to play SSBM but I get an average framerate of less than 1 with 4 fps being the absolute highest.

And that's just the menus. I haven't even made it to a battle yet.

I saw another topic on this page claiming to get 30fps in SSBM so it must be supported by dolphin.

My PC specs are surely far in excess of what is required, so what is the problem?

    My spec:

    2.01 GHZ Dual Core Athlon 64 X2
    Radeon X1800XT 256Mb video ram.
    1Gb DDR SDRAM

    I'm using Dolphin 1.03

Dynarec sorta worked, but the sound is garbled and the game crashes upon selecting any option in the menu.

I managed to get into battle, but it's jerky as hell, the sound doesn't work and many textures are missing. Is there any solution to this?

I can't. It's a PAL copy. I tried changing it to French though, but no help at all.

    In regards to framerate: http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=18442

There's no chance that your PC will run Dolphin at full, or even half, speed. I just thought you should know this. Mouser X out.

It says modern pc's are too slow with the techniques they use, so are the Dolphin team going to be changing to more effective techniques?

Is this going to be fixed anytime soon, or should I go buy a gamecube?

"Techniques we use" doesn't mean that those techniques are wrong.

Even if they promised a perfect emulator tomorrow, we'd still tell you to buy a Gamecube.

My PC runs 'Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion' at 1280x1024 with all graphics settings maxed out at a steady 20-30 fps.

I have seen nothing on the gamecube that comes close to Oblivion's graphical intensity. Certainly not Smash Bros.

How can it possibly not mean that their techniques are flawed

Wakirby, you are talking about totally different things. That game was designed for the PC platform, or at least optimised for it.

Dolphin is emulating a PPC style processor on an X86 one, and contrary to what you may be inclined to believe, it's a damn intensive process to only emulate the CPU, then you've got to emulate the graphics too.

The techniques probably aren't 100% perfect, but even if they were, it'd still be slow I would wager.

Just buy the machine, emulation isn't meant as a means to avoid actually paying for something, particularly if you expect near perfect speeds for current/next gen machines. Just ain't gonna happen just yet. Maybe in another generation or two.

I'm no authority on this subject though.... so feel free to correct me anyone.
