Go to the Dreamcast BIOS (by running the emulator without any disc being read) and Choose File. The BIOS should inform you that the inserted VMU is not formatted and let you format it.

DO NOT mount a CD image. DO NOT load a Dreamcast game. RUN Chankast. Then, start the emulation (It's the first selection under "File"). Once the emulator is running, select the VMU in the UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER. Push buttons at random, until something happens. The available selections are few, and limited. You should be able to figure it out from there.

ALSO make sure that you have a VMU card in your controller. CHECK the controller options, and there should be FOUR controller slots (A, B, C, and D, as I recall). Make sure that in controller A, there's a VMU unit. It's selectable in one of the drop-down menus.

Hope that helps. Mouser X over and out.
