N64 Project 64 FAQ : Look Here Before Posting!

Right here is a guide to help prevent the same questions being asked, time and time again

How do I load a game? Go to : File - Open Rom. Then select the dirextory your game is in, Then click the title of the game and press open.

How do I change the Control keys? (Keyboard)

Go to : Options - Configure Controller Plugins. From there, assign keys to each button you want to change.

How do I change the Control keys? (Joypad) First of all, Select your Joypad from the : Options - Configure Controller Plugins -: Gaming Device box. Then tick the box under it that says "Controller is plugged in". Then go to : Options - Configure Controller Plugins. From there, assign keys to each button you want to change.

How do I go to full-screen mode?

Press alt + Enter on your keyboard. Or go to : Options - Full Screen.

How do I get my Games to show in the Rom list?

Go to : File - Choose Rom Directory. From there choose which folder your games/Roms are in, then press ok. Your games will now be shown in the list.

What file types work with Project 64?

.Rom, .v64, .z64 & zip files. 7z files are not supported. (only in v1.7 beta) Use a program like "Winrar" to extract them.

    My game has graphical glitches/problems

Try using different settings. Go to : Options - Settings - Options and untick the "hide advanced settings" box. Then go to : Options - Configure graphics plugin and untick the "hide advanced settings" box. Then go to : Options - Configure graphics plugin - Advanced. Try using the "legacy Pixel Pipeline" Or "use direct 3d transformation pipeline". That usually will solve quite a few graphical problems.

My game will not load, Microde error

Try using a different verion of the rom. For example, if you are using "Super Mario 64 (B1)" Try using "Super Mario 64 (E)"

    How do I save a quick save/savestate?

While in game, press "F5" on your keyboard to make a savestate. Once you have done that, you can continue from that exact point next time you play.

    How do I load a quick save/savestate?

While in game, press "F7" on your keyboard to load your last savestate on the game.

Memory pack not inserted, game wont save/work

Go to : Options - Configure Controller Plugin. Next to the "controller is plugged" in box, you will see a dropdown box on the right. Change it from "none" to "Memory pack".

The sound in my game is crackiling/poor

Go to : Options - Configure Audio Plugin. Then under the "rom settings" box, tick the "sync game to audio" box. That should sove the problem.

My game is slow and has bad fps

Check if your PC meets the requirements of the emulator, If it doesn't you will have to accept that you will not be able to run the emulator properly.
Also, turning off the sound on the emulator will speed things up.

My game is running to fast.

Go to : System - Limit fps. Make sure the box is ticked.

How can I rename my Games/roms?

Use a program called "Good N64"

    My game freezes.

Try quick saving it, quitting the emulator then reloading the save state. Or check that no cheats are turned on.

    My game is flickering

Go to : Options - Configure Graphics plugin. Turn the full-screen resolution down from "32 bit" to "16 bit".

    Worthy of a sticky?
If anyone thinks there is something I have missed, Please tell me and I will add it to the guide.
    Thanks!

i was going to shout at you because we have an FAQ on the site (and for being a PSP enthusiast :p) but some of those are good in a so-simple we've missed it kind of way, so i may add/change on site. but we dont want a sticky and maintaining faqs in more than one place.

also some of those are dodgy e.g.:

    My game is flickering
Go to : Options - Configure Graphics plugin. Turn the full-screen resolution down from "32 bit" to "16 bit".
(i don't understand this, you have some low memory integrated graphics?)

My game will not load, Micro[co]de error
Try using a different verion of the rom. For example, if you are using "Super Mario 64 (B1)" Try using "Super Mario 64 (E)"
(this would come under error msgs/bad roms)

etc. but yeah i'll add some things to site if that's ok, thanks

The flickering game is gauntlet legends. Doing what I mentioned fixes the problem.

yeah i would be delighted if you added some of them to your faq.

    Thanks Smiff
