problems with controller

I've been having a problem with my mad catz controller using Jabo's input plugin. it just won't work. it will read the control's oddly when I'm setting up the button configuration. when the countdown begins, and I push a button, it says RY in the box were it should say left, A etc. and I go to make another set-up and it says selection already in use. can anyone help me.
