How about you assign the Start button to some other button than it is currently assigned to.

Ok how stupid is this? I didnt realize that player 1 button 2 in MAME is defaulted as ALT, so when I pressed theat button it would drop down the run menu in Chankast causing the game to pause (DUH).

Now is there any way to stop this from happening, I dont want to remap my other emulators or frontends.

No, because ALT is the universal key for activating the menubar in windowed applications that have a menu bar.
