    bootable USB flash drive

I have a usb flash drive that I was able to boot with win98 on it. Obviously I don't want windows 98 on this. When I attempted to install both xp pro and w2k, the setup cd never even found the partition to install. XP sees the flash when it is already formatted and set up, even copies files to it, but cannot install either NT OS on it. DOes anyone have any suggestions for me? I am out of ideas. I need this drive to boot independently in my notebook with using my internal hard drive because this needs to have GPS software on it ...flying above 12,000 ft. in an unpressurized plane. Thanks for your help.

see if your flash have some sort of SATA like drivers...although i deemed it unpossible.

It only requires a driver for 98. The utility disk that comes with it finally formated it and supposedly made it bootable. But it did not boot in my notebook. So I will try it in another system with XP to rule out a problem with my notebook. Thanks for your input.

I haven't read the whole article, but this looks promising.

All that's needed is a bootable USB Flash drive with at least 256 MB of storage capacity and a Windows Setup CD. Using the program Bart PE Builder (Freeware), you can install Windows XP on the flash drive, along with other software as needed (and as available space permits).
