You should expect never. You'd need special HW to do it. So essentially it's not ever going to happen. If it does it's going to be about as common as plugging an SNES game catrdige into a computer is. It can be done, but few actually have the HW needed.

DVD drives can't read GC discs. No matter how many improvements they add to emulators, DVD drives will remain incapable of reading GC discs. Do CD drives read DVDs? No. If you buy special software can you make it possible for your CD drive to read DVDs? No. It would take very advanced hardware modifications to make a DVD drive able to read GC discs, and after that it wouldn't really be a DVD drive, would it?
