Removing effects from previously used cheats?

It's something I've tried on several games and couldn't do! For instance, on Riviera: The Promised Land, I don't want to face the Black Wyrm of Lacrima with high stats, or let Serene defeat Malice before she even joins (which is a game-breaking event). But turning the cheats off, deleting cheats from the list, deleting the list itself, disabling all cheats, reloading the game without the cheats, etc., all leave the effects on my party.

It's this way with Final Fantasy Legend II and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, as well. I can reasonably guess it would happen with most of my games.

Sometimes I want to play around with the cheats, sometimes I don't! Advice, please?

Use 2 savestates or even 2 copies of the game, one for cheats, one for honesty :p

    My Advice is less challenging
I suggest you learn what the cheat codes mean and do in memory editing to correct the cheat code affects.

If you use VBA this is a snap just go to TOOLS->Memory Viewer
Then select IRAM or WRAM and page to the location the cheats change and play with them

    Cyb

I'm sure that'd work beautifully if I could make sense of these numbers! Any guidelines for this?

The problem is that the codes change the values in the memory so the game thinks your "stats" are way higher. To fix it, you might be able to record the old values and re-write the codes to set back the previous values. It might be the only way. With action replay codes, this isn't hard.
