Chankast running fine on a 9600 Pro ?

Hi there, I would like to change my good old Radeon 9100 for a more Recent graphic card. The reason is quite simple, Chankast runs slow with my videocard. I experienced it with a GF FX5700 and the result was better with some games (like Soul Calibur) but others like DOA2 were running SLOOOOOOOWLY (about 21 frames per second).

So, my question is : Will I have improved framerate with a 9600 Pro videocard ?

    thanx for you replies

As of right now, Chankast is more dependent on CPU power than anything else. If you're using a P4 or Athlon at 2.0 Ghtz, then a newer video card isn't going to do much for you. If your CPU is a Celeron or Duron, then that is what you would need to concentrate on upgrading. I run Soul Caliber on my old GForce FX on an HT P4@2.4 Ghtz, and I'm getting framerates in the 50-60 area.

    Unhappy

Oh Sorry I have forgotten to give the specs of my system.

    Athlon Xp2200+
    512 Mb Ram DDR2100
    ATI RADEON 9100
    Sound Blaster Live
    Asrock K7VT2

As you can see, I am not able to upgrade my CPU anymore, because of the KT266A chipset limitations. Running Soul Calibur with a FX5700 on my system gave me framerates around 45/55 (at peak), with the 9100 it's around 23/25 (sometimes). So framerate was quite the double with the GF-FX. Chankast is more dependant of CPU with a game like DOA2 but with a game like soul Calibur strangely it's more dependant of the GPU. It's just my observations...

    ok ok
    get the ati 9800pro 256-bit 128mb
the specs have to match that
    9600 is 128bit =half the bandwidth

most ppl are ignorant and think that more mb the better
    a 128bit 256mb card is SLOWER than any 256bit 128mb card
    -keep that in mind

    you can get a 9800pro 128mb for $130
    -damn good deal
If you want EVEN FASTER; then but the Arctic cooling rev3 heatsink for it, overclock it, and flash it ot a 9800xt

    ;-)

the best way to gain higher framerates in chankast is to overclock your cpu
when i went from 3.0ghz to 3.6ghz i got a nice 30fps increase in bios and 20+ fps increase in all my games...

A barton CPU is enough for Soul Caliber (a 3200+ is too fast in fact), and overclocked Tbreds to the 2.0GHz+ range will do the job @60fps. Graphics card will make no difference at 10x7 as long as it is fairly recent. Radeon 9100 is not really a bad card, so an upgrade to the 9600 Pro would be almost a side grade as they are not too far apart in performance.

I'd wait as the next version of Chankast is said to have performance improvements, so a 2200+ may fall into the 60fps+ zone, you never know. Hopefully there'll be a frame limiter too.

You guys are all wrong about graphics card not affecting framerates. I just got a new ati 9600xt and it runs about 7-10 frames slower than my geforceti4200. I don't know why considering the 9600xt is supposed to be faster but that is the case. I think it's because the developers used an ati card for development and added certain features which nvidia cards don't use that makes for the slower framerate. For instance I notice that my character select screen was sometimes all black but when it's visible there's more stuff being displayed.

Overall I think Nvidia cards do work faster than ATI cards on account of missing features.
