The graphics in this game runs veeeery slow. The fps is constantly at 60 however and the sound speed is fine so this can't be my hardware that is too slow (rather the emulated hardware?).

My specs:

Athlon amd 1GHz
nVidia GeForce 2, 64MB
256 MB RAM

it has timing issues with the core. that's why it's so jerky.

The CF must be set right for it to work properly...

Therein lies the problem. You could set it lower to improve speed (about 2-3), or set it higher to prevent lock-ups. Since it seems to lock-up at specific points, it's feasible that you could run at a lower CF for most of the game and make frequent save states. When reaching a lock-up point, simply raise the CF and reload an old save.
