Yep its official, nvidia have released a new set of drivers for win xp/2000 and they are suppost to give up to 20% speed increase compared to the other drivers.

Its all good, except i have a problem, i get an error message when starting up, i have a creative geforce 2 MX400 Pci 32MB and have coolbits tweaker and a refresh fix for windows xp. Does any1 kno what the prob is? cuz i havent had this prob before and i always update my detonator drivers as soon as theres a new release

Thanx

i had to switch back to the 30.82 dets cause the 40.41's made some of my games (quake3, sof2) look all washed out (low contast) and dark.
hope they fix this soon cause i got an extra 15fps in the 3dmark nature demo with the 40.41 dets

u need to uninstall any previous drivers. and u might need to delete any of the registry files, becos the new drivers dont use a few of the older files, including nvtweak.dll, which can cause issues like error msgs. its a bit ridiculous as they should tell ppl this.

i personally havnt tried the myet cos my ti4200 arrives on monday, and i dont see the point testing them out on my geforce 2 gts.

from reading a few forums i must say that this seems to be a very sneaky move by nvidia. if u look at benchmarks other than 3dmark2001, there hasnt been much of an increase (in some cases decreases) in speed. furthermore, it seems, just as ati optimised their drivers just for quake 3, nvidia hav done the same for the 'nature' demo in 3dmrk2001. still, gonna test them next week anyway. i dont think theres even been much of a performance increase for AF or FSAA. still any performance gain is decent for free.

I also think that it's that old cards work bad with new drivers, wasn't it so?
Well, I dunno.

Stezo, download this small file which I have attached and run the .reg file that is in it - this will enable Coolbits, along with a few other display tabs using the latest Nvidia drivers:

I find it confusing and weird...
I find the new 40.xx series of drivers in the archive, which is 9 mb.
Then i find 30.82 @ 10 mb on the front.

Hmmm?????

The new 40 drivers, despite being on the Official site are classed as BETAs, as such they are in the archives, and the latest official are in the normal place.

yeh they are betas, which is sorta should shut ppl moaning a bit. although i dont often remember seeing nvidia officially release beta drivers.

You certain about that? I hope nvidia isn't trying to pull an ATI. (cheat by crippling the graphics intentionaly to make the benchmarks look better)

Last we need are two ATIs...I hope nvidias drivers don't go to shit like theirs are :/

this is some response from nvnews:

"NVIDIA's Brian Burke has sent 3DChipset an explanation of what was improved within the driver and why 3DMark scores have risen dramatically while the scores of other games haven't jumped accordingly.

A lot of the improvements in performance are due to improved efficiency in the driver code that effect vertex and pixel shaders. That is why the jump in Nature. A big jump can be seen in Aquanox, too, another app that uses vertex shaders and pixel shaders. Apps that use pixel and vertex shaders also just happen to be the ones that are popular for benchmarking. Games that do not use vertex and pixel shaders may not see as significant of an improvement as games that do."

no, the image quality is still the same (from what i could tell).
its just that the gamma or contrast is set to a really dark level.
and turning up the brightness just makes the games look washed out

edit: alot of people from the GURU of 3D forums report the same problem. so i know its not just me

the drivers work fine for me, i get no contrast/brighness probs at all, the only prob i get is the overclocking even with the newest coolbits for detonator 40 :( i kinda need that function aswell

The new drivers seemed to make a bit of a difference for me -- 5739 3D marks (about 500 more than before)

My specs:

Win2K Professional 5.0 Service Pack 3 (Build #2195)
AMD Athlon XP 1600+ (1.4ghz)
MSI KT3 Ultra 2 mainboard w/ decent onboard sound
256mb DDR PC 2700 ram
MSI Geforce4 MX440 w/ tv out
Maxtor 40GB 7200 w/ fluid dynamic bearings
LG 32X burner
Resolution: (1024x768x32bpp 60Hz)

Yeah, I know 60hz is icky but my monitor is poo :/

u need coolbits reg file to enable overclocking in the nvidia advanced menu. but i use the overclocking bar in rivatuner, it doesnt really matter, they all do the same thing.

depends on ur video card and cooling situation. they just the recommended boundarys. basically, u should overclock small bits by bit if u hav no idea how good ur card overclocks. if i was u i would go to a hardware forum and ask to save time testing. never overclock too high if ur unsure. it can overheat and burn ur card. thats why ur meant to increase the overclocking bars in small amounts, then test the card for stability, and continue overclocking. if u start overclocking too much, windows might freeze, or u might start getting artifacts appearing on the screen. if thats the case then just reduce the clock speeds a bit till its stable again.

for instance, my msi geforce 4 ti4200 (64 megs) is now clocked at 315 core 600 mem, whilst the default is 250 core and 515 mem. this is pretty much my limit. any more will start causing issues. also i hav 2 extra fans in my case, so hopefully things stay a bit cooler.

thnxs sk8bloke but there is something
i made the coreclock over clooked tell 190 mhz
memory clock 215 and i have a tnt2 m64 32 megs its shite :) but who cares now but i just wanna make sure it wont burn or over heat :) so where is these hardware forums state one plz
thnxs in adv. ;)

erm, all i can think of is www.nvnews.net and the forum. i dunno, usually in a hardware forum, someone will have either had ur card or hav some idea how well it overclocks, although it varies for every system configuration. in my experience, i looked on a few random forums to see wat ppl were overclocking my exact gfx card to, and tried it for myself. so far no issues.
