Any fixes for black screens in Doubutsu no Mori (J) (!) ?????

OK, I know this is a weird request. My wife's Japanese and begged me to try this one out. Surprisingly, it appears to work ok, except whenever you have to input info such as your name, the name of a town, etc, it's just a black screen and you are stuck with random button pushing and random selections. It appears the game will play after these bits of info are fed in, but I suspect the whole game is like this.

Any ideas?

Never mind. Answered my own question. In the unlikely event anyone out there 1) reads japanese, and 2) cares:innocent: , I fixed this by disabling "force depth enable." I usually keep this enabled for FZero and Diddy Kong Racing.
