1. format HD
2. run fdisk
3. create an extended partition
4. install win98 on the primary partition
5. install linux on the secondary partition

is that about it?? anything i have missed, or need to include... thanks.

hehe, from my experience that sounds just about right, make sure that step one is DEFINITLY done before step 2;) i didn't do that;0

actually i wouldnt install linux on a fat partition. u can leave the space u want to use for linux unpartitioned and let the installer do it (note: i tried this with SuSe, which uses YAST).

and teamz is right, if u want to do it on a fat partition u need to run fdisk first and create the extended partition, THEN format the partition u created.
ur advantage would be that u can get rid of linux very quickly when its on fat, but i wouldnt recommend it otherwise.

You have to format after running FDISK, and I agree with 2fast4u. Allocate the windows partition only and leave the rest of the disk space unpartitioned until you install linux
