no f**ing way im i buying Matrox again, i'm a very technically minded/capable/get lots of time to faff about person and I never could get my G400/RRG to work properly, and Matrox's attitude to driver development is not good enough. And claiming to be really good at 2d (haha!) is like an admission of failure.

Their attitude (matroxusers.com mostly) was always "you're the one with the problem" - funny, all my problems dissapeared when i pulled it out and put a GeForce in, and i never went back there...

I bought a matrox card based on the oooooooold power vr chipset. It worked for quake 2 well. That was the only game. driver support is apalling

ugh, i suffered a g200 *shudder*, all games looked ropey, performed like dogs, had absolutley NO OpenGL support... n64 emulation? HA! no chance with that thing, im not buying matrox out of principle, i hate that goddamn company

My only experience with matrox was shitty too, it seems more like they just want to be the microsoft of video card mfrs. They seem try to push people towards proprietary APIs (ATI tried to do this a bit earlier on but not to as great of an extent). I stick with nvidia b/c they have always used open APIs.

When was matrox ever pushing an api? granted, g200 ogl sucks, but apart from that?

AlphaWolf

Actualy I don't remember if it was an API exactly, but back in the day matrox had something going on whereas they wanted some developers to build software that would only work on their cards.

the g400 was a card...i think it was the first to implement bump-mapping...and there were enuff features.

AlphaWolf: You are propably talking about EMBM (Environmental Bump Mapping) which, as sk8bloke said, was the first bm implementation.

http://www.hardocp.com/articles/parhelia/index.html :inlove:

We have seen the technology work in a controlled environment first hand and without a doubt, the Parhelia has left us with a feeling of excitement. Yes, this statement comes from a guy that games with a GF4 Ti4600.

Do know this though, Matrox clearly stated that the "Parhelia will not be [a video card] for the masses". You can count on this being a high-end card in price as well as hopefully long-term performance. Be expecting Parhelia to put you back about US$400.

Come on bunny let's go rob a bank! :bunny:
