I reccomend using the F5 save function as often as you can, sometimes a game seems to delete your saves for no good reason, if you use the F5 function then you are just saving your current status in the game and not relying on the emulator to keep the save for you.

you can then use the ctrl+L shortcut to load the save, you need to have the game running first though

Hope this helps

this is a helpful tip, however it is not the problem. I have the save file that my emulator created, it just won't load while playing the game. (yes all directory settings are correct)

Is the original in-game save present in the Save folder? Personally, I would never use savestates over in-game saves, unless you need to quickly return to a specific spot in the game where a save point isn't accessible, for example.

the save generated by using the save feature in the game itself is in the save folder, yes.
