same, anyway u were meant to tell us about realbots. i think i had a program like that, but the bots were terrible and it was no fun. plus if u hav a 56k modem, then 7/10 games are gonna suck due to connection probs.

I haven't play a FPS in ages, I loved doom and wolfenstein and then quake but I got bored with it pretty quickly,

counterstrike and quake 3 are totally different games. IMO to be good at CS is a lot harder than to be good at q3. they're both fun games but honestly I'd rather play a decent single player game than them

Yes SOF2, and UT2 may be getting good graphics capabilities, but like Quake3 and the old UT, as well as several other games that are far more advanced technologicaly than half lifes engine, they simply cant match the origionality. If the game was truely as bad as some people on this forum and in IRC like to say it is, then it wouldn't be the second most played multiplayer game (next to everquest). 15K+ public *free* servers must be saying something good about it right?

There are many more where this came from, even though that one definitely isn't my best. :devil: (granted my score isn't always the highest, I never play on the winning team)

there have been TONS of real life mods for 3d fps games. and cs CERTAINLY wasn't the first. check out action quake, or even the first wolfenstein 3d.

in this day and age of brittney and o-town, the term originality is thrown around a whole lot, but certainly isn't accurate in the least bit, least of all to counter strike.

and, btw. if you haven't played urban terror yet, then you have no room to talk about what's a better game. there should be NO question after about 5 min. of fragging.

The reason counter strike isnt really popular anymore is because there are so many lamers who just cheat and ruin the game for everybody. Soldier of Fortune 2 is one HELL of a game in multiplayer and also very good in single player. The story is far from original but it is potrayed well and it makes you want to play to find out more. Unfortunatly at the moment I only have a 56k connection, it makes me cry :(

Actualy I have played urban terror, it sucks compared to CS, they realy have the weapons screwed up bad (I have been trained to use a few of them, CS is more accurate), the game physics seem a bit less realistic, and a common trait with the Q3 engine is that everything in the game looks like it got a fresh turtle wax coat.

The CS concept is origional, the use of real world weapons, counter-terrorist vs terrorist (as opposed to the red team vs the blue team) money buying, hostage rescue, bombing, etc. are what made it unique (well didnt have the bombing missions at first). Before CS everybody packed 50x50lb rockets in their backpack with railguns and BFG 9000's.

TFC and its clones were actualy the most popular mods at the time before CS. Granted rocket arena had the 'you die then tough shit' play method first, but it lacked everything else. I dont know what makes you think wolfenstein created origionality in this genera.

The only other game that I like besides CS in this specific type of mod is strikeforce, the creators of that one did a damn good job at the realism (save for a few things) but for some reason its just not quite as fun.

EDIT: Actualy something I might add to what vampireuk said: CS being the most popular is the most prone to being targeted by the cheaters. Thats just the way things go. For example, windows is probably more secure than macOS but nobody ever sees the security holes in macOS because nobody realy wants to target it, because nobody realy uses it!

Theres been a recent crackdown by server admins to run a blacklist of cheaters, thus far it its quite successful, in the end we will find out weather or not it works when most of the server admins adopt this blacklist.

No, I read in a recent interview that they have decided to scrap MP from Unreal 2 altogether. They might release an MP add-on later, but it won't ship with any MP capabilities.

To see the difference you have to go back and look at the original Unreal and Unreal Tournament.

Unreal's multiplayer is similar to Quake, Quake 2, and Duke Nukem 3D where your in a linear level that you run around from one end to the other trying to blast the enemy.

Unreal Tournament is more like Quake III Arena where your in a (sort of) circular arena that you run around and blast people in. I prefer the arena types for multiplayer because you don't get lost in them as easily and its easier to find enemies to blast. Not to mention its more flowing, if you run long enough you will come back to where you started.
