Game controller with Vista

Ive tried two game pads so far with my Project64 1.6 on Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit and neither seem to work. One is a crap Jap Tesun PS2 USB2.0 controller and even after installing driver software it won't work. The I tried my roommates Logitech game pad (without any software) and it won't work either. By the by, I am just going to Options - Configure Controller Plugin, then I get no response from the gamepad. If I'm doing something wrong or have missed a step I'm fine with correction. Anything is appreciated!

That's what I figured so I went on eBay and purchased an N64 controller and this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...em=350030281857&_trksid=p3984.cTODAY.m238.lVI to make it to USB, I can retract my bids if you can request a better idea.
